Summary: In this poem, the poet mentions three things that are woven together in the same thread, which are poetry, love, and beauty. According to him, all these things require a lot of time and a lot of hard work. One evening the poet was sitting with a close friend and his beloved discussing how her pursuit of beauty had not yielded her any results but had left her with a weary heart. Even after running after Beauty, it did not catch up with him.
Here he is talking about his beloved. He loved a very beautiful woman named Maud Gonne but he never got her love. He loved his beloved’s looks but always hated her work. The sad reality of chasing after his lover is what he portrays in the poem which leaves him with a weary heart.
