Summary
The poem “Bog Queen” is one of the poems in the Bog Collection in which the poet expresses his love for his native Ireland. In addition to expressing his love in the poem, he depicts the sufferings of the people of Ireland, past, present, and religion.
While glorifying his motherland, he introduces us to a character called Bog Queen. According to him, Ireland is not learning from history and that is why they are slowly going towards destruction.
According to him, the English were blamed for the destruction of Ireland, but the Irish were leading the destruction of their own motherland. He said that history can never be erased rather it can be preserved. And this history, he believes, will one day speak of a ruined Ireland in distress.
He expressed his anger due to the plight of Ireland through this poem and wanted to save Ireland from this situation.
