Summary

In this poem, the poet was walking through the forest one day. His intention was to enjoy the beauty of the stars in the sky. By that time, the last light of the sun has also gone out i.e. the sun has set in the west. The forest was pitch black both Inside and outside. Suddenly, he heard a kind of bird singing from inside the dark black forest. It can be called an expression of regret rather than a song. Here the poet refers to the setting of the sun as its death. The bird is regretting the death of the sun. The poet felt that this bird was desperate to get back the sunlight. It was waiting in the forest to see the rays of the sun. Perhaps the bird wanted someone to join it in its penance. But the poet wanted to keep himself away from these. He came to enjoy the starry beauty in the sky and would do just that. He assumed that the bird was not inviting him. And even if informed, he will not join it.

Here the poet basically does not want to involve himself in the horror of inevitable death. He wants to forget the sadness and enjoy the beauty of nature.
