Describe how Gulliver was fed by the Lilliputians.

In “Gulliver’s Travels” (1726) (Book 1, Chapter 2), Gulliver reaches Lilliput. Here, he becomes a prisoner of the tiny people. But they treat him kindly. One important part of their care is feeding him every day. The Lilliputians are amazed by Gulliver’s size and appetite. Still, they do their best to feed him regularly with great effort and planning.

First Food Arrives: When Gulliver first meets the emperor, he is very hungry. The emperor orders his servants to bring food and drink for Gulliver. They bring baskets full of meat and barrels of drink. To Gulliver, each piece of meat is just a mouthful. He eats many baskets quickly.

Large Daily Supply: After Gulliver is chained, the Lilliputians start feeding him every day. They bring him large amounts of food in carts and barrels. It takes hundreds of their people to serve his meals. The food includes bread, meat, and drink. Gulliver is careful to eat cleanly. He is also thankful and tries not to waste any food, even though it is very little for his size.

Servants to Help: The emperor appoints many servants to help Gulliver. These small people carry his food, clean his place, and even remove his waste. They use wheelbarrows to carry food and drink. They also take away leftovers and clean up the area around Gulliver.

Finally, Gulliver’s feeding shows the kindness and hard work of the Lilliputians. They treat him with respect and do everything to meet his needs. Though he is huge and different, they never forget their duty. Through this care, a friendship begins between Gulliver and the little people of Lilliput.
