Summary

Enjoying the Natural Beauty and Experiencing the Presence of God: Wordsworth begins the poem by describing the evening’s quiet and pleasant natural beauty. He said, “This evening is lovely and quiet and so quiet and holy that it feels quiet and holy as monks sit in meditation.” There was no wind, and the setting sun sank silently into the ocean. Then, the poet feels a powerful being (God) in the sea’s roar. And he said, This is the being (God), which is ever awake and exists within all things.

Children’s Connections with God: The poet then addresses his daughter (Caroline) and says that although he walks here with her, as he feels a strong presence amidst the ocean’s roar, his daughter cannot feel the same. But his daughter is not far from heavenly feelings. Because every child has a heavenly blessing. God is always with children. But, we may not understand that; we are entirely deprived of it.
