Summary
In the poem, the nurse hears children laughing and playing outside in the green fields and beside the hills. She feels very happy and calm. Everything around her feels quiet and peaceful because the children are having fun.
The nurse tells the children that the sun is setting. The night will come soon. They should stop playing and get ready for bed. But the children want to play more. They say that the birds are still flying in the sky. The hills are still full of sheep. It is still day and they cannot sleep so early.
The nurse smiles and agrees. She lets them play a little longer until the light is gone. They can go home and sleep afterwards. Then the children play, laugh, and jump around happily. Their joy fills the hills with sound.
