Summary
Bacon is Against Revenge: Bacon gives some idea of the problems that revenge can cause. First, he argues that revenge often leads to a cycle of violence, where each act of revenge begets another revenge. Where the peace of the state is disturbed. Second, he argues that revenge is usually disproportionate to the original crime because people often want to do more harm than good when they take revenge. Third, he argues that revenge is against religious values. Religion proclaims forgiveness as a noble virtue.
Advise on Taking Revenge: Bacon says it is not right to take personal revenge. But the revenge should be taken publicly or officially by the state. Because if this revenge system or system is correct and acceptable then the state will reach the peak of development. And if the state’s revenge is flawed, then there will be no difference between private revenge and this flawed revenge. This will never bring peace to the state.
Quoting from the pages of history, he said that only those who have taken the right and acceptable revenge, have prospered or become famous in history. If any crime is committed outside the law then it must be prosecuted or must be avenged. So that there is no violation of such laws later on. From this point of view, we can say that Bacon is never against revenge but he presents this system of revenge beautifully.
Bacon argues that revenge is a flawed and dangerous act that should be avoided. Instead, he advocates a rational approach to justice based on the rule of law.
