The Lotos-Eaters: A Dreamy Island: In “The Lotos-Eaters” (1832), Tennyson describes an island where Odysseus’s sailors eat magical lotos flowers. Those who eat the lotos feel as if they have fallen into a deep sleep. They feel numb and laziness and sit down on the yellow sand of the island. They forget their duties and decide to stay on the island forever. They sing:
