Summary
In this poem, the poet describes the history of America from the colonial period, when the country was part of the British colony.
Here the poet is talking about the colonial rulers who came to rule America. But they could not accept America as their land. They struggled with national identity as they didn’t want to return to Britain, and this fact made them weak mentally. Later they surrendered themselves completely to America. They outrightly gifted themselves to the magical land of America.
They gradually develop a love for this country and fight and die for it for ages as proof of patriotism. Proving themselves as proud Americans.
