Summary
Who Made Thee: “The Lamb” is a remarkable poem by William Blake. It was published in the “Songs of Innocence” collection in 1789. In this poem, the poet shows the beautiful creation of God by a lamb. The speaker of the poem is a small child, and it is written from his point of view.
First, the speaker directly asks a lamb who has created him, who has given him life and provided him with food. As the Lamb was made, he was clothed with a woolen coat. He is also given a tender voice.
Christ/God: In the second stanza, the speaker eagerly answers the question. He who created this Lamb is also called the Lamb. Christ is called the “Lamb of God”. He is very noble and kind, and he, too, was once a child. Then he was pure like the Lamb and the speaker (the speaker of this poem is a small innocent child). The speaker then prays to God for the Lamb’s well-being.
